Exports more of 85% of the polyols production
The Tortosa (Tarragona) facility is one of the world’s leading producers of polyols (pentaerythritol and dipentaerythritol) and sodium formate. This site supplies virtually all polyol consumers in the Spanish market and exports the remainder of its production—90%—to more than 50 countries.
Polyols are primarily used in the manufacture of synthetic resins and lubricants, paints, PVC stabilizers, and printing inks. The Tortosa site houses two pentaerythritol plants and one dipentaerythritol plant.
The facility also hosts the R&D department for the intermediate chemicals division, to which the plant belongs. This R&D department has developed the ErcrosGreen+ and ErcrosTech product lines, which feature advanced environmental and technological properties.

A bit of history
Under the ownership of S.A. Polialco, the Tortosa factory starts its activity manufacturing pentaerythritol and sodium formate using its own patented process.
Polialco is integrated into Derivados Forestales and starts producing formaldehyde, the main raw material for pentaerythritol and sodium formate.
Dipentaerythritol production begins using internally developed technology, including process control and instrumentation.
Creation of the holding Derivados Forestales Group XXI, S.L., which includes the Tortosa together with the Almussafes and Cerdanyola factories.
On the occasion of the acquisition of Derivados Forestales by Ercros, the Tortosa factory is integrated into the intermediate chemicals division.
Expansion of the production capacity of polyol plants.
