Ercros has increased by 15% its dipenta production capacity

Tortosa,

Since the beginning of April, the expansion of the dipentaerythritol (dipenta) production capacity of the Ercros factory in Tortosa (Tarragona) has been underway. This investment allows the current production capacity to be increased by 15%.

The largest volume of dipenta available will be used, as a priority, to increase Ercros' presence in the Asian and US markets. Currently, the company exports 85% of this product sales. Dipenta is a high-value-added polyol used to make paints, lubricants, PVC stabilizers and ultraviolet light hardened resins. This project allows increasing the weight of the polyols business and, therefore, of the intermediate chemicals division in Ercros, which is one of the objectives of the diversification dimension defined by the 3D Plan.

The 3D Plan is the strategic plan started up by Ercros, which pursues its transformation into a sustainable company and is based on three dimensions: Diversification, Digitalisation and Decarbonisation. The plan contains 20 major projects. Its timeframe is the period 2021-2025, although the execution of several digitalisation and decarbonisation projects will go beyond this period and will extend until 2029. For the period 2021-2029, Ercros foresees a total investment of 92 million euros and the generation of an additional ebitda of 194 million euros.

The Ercros factory in Tortosa directly employs 114 people and in 2020 had a turnover of 64 million euros. It is focused on the production of formaldehyde that is used mainly as a raw material to make polyols (pentaerythritol, dipentaerythritol and sodium formate). It supplies practically all consumers in the Spanish market, but the main part of the production, 70%, is exported to more than 50 countries around the world.
